The Beginning

Michael and Sunita were both born and raised in neighboring cities in Upstate New York.

They both enrolled and graduated from Russell Sage College in Troy, N.Y. in the year 2000 with their degrees in Master of Science in Occupational Therapy.

Michael was first introduced to Occupational Therapy by a friend’s mother, who as a nurse, had an extensive background in the services that an Occupational Therapist can provide.

Michael has spent his career in sub-acute rehab, outpatient clinics specializing in upper extremity trauma/hand therapy, and home healthcare.

Sunita knew that she wanted to be a therapist since she was in the 4th grade.

Sunita has experience in sub-acute rehabilitation, skilled rehabilitation quality assurance and home healthcare.

Both have spent 15 of their 23-year careers in homecare. Michael and Sunita both agree that one cannot predict what the future holds but if they could work in homecare for the rest of their careers, they would consider their professional life as Occupational Therapists a complete success.

Sunita and Michael both found their niche in homecare therapy finding the setting to be the most functional environment to rehabilitate their patients to return to their highest level of independence.

How Lightning Therapy Makes The Difference

They seek to help their patients recover from any medical condition that causes them to decline from their prior level of function.

Sunita and Michael look for rehabilitation opportunities to impact their patients to successfully reengage in activities that are meaningful and purposeful to them.

This is what drives them and their team to continue to provide rehabilitation services to create successful functional outcomes for their patients.

After several years of working as full-time Occupational Therapists in home healthcare they were approached by several home health care administrators asking them to begin their own home healthcare contract therapy company.

After a few months of working on the logistics of starting the business, they successfully launched Lightning Therapy on August 19th, 2014.

They started the company working several days a week together to establish Lightning Therapy as a premier company to offer quality therapy services to several home health care agencies in the Tampa Bay area.

Shortly after, the company began to grow, Sunita and Michael began to add a team of clinicians that had the same level of commitment to the quality of care that they were providing to their patients.

The Goal

The goal was to extend their vision for great therapy services within the Tampa Bay community. Lightning Therapy now has a roster of clinicians with a variety of specialties providing therapy services throughout Pinellas, Hillsborough and Manatee Counties.

They feel extremely blessed to be working with an amazing team of clinicians called the “Lightning Therapy Team” providing rehabilitation services in the community in which they live in and love.

In their free time outside of owning Lightning Therapy, Michael and Sunita have a variety of activities and hobbies they enjoy including cooking, traveling, exercising, enjoying the West Coast Florida beaches and spending time in the community with family and friends.
